About the Coffee
This AB-grade coffee comes from the Riakiberu Washing Station in Murang’a County, located in Kenya’s Central Province just north of Nairobi. Around 700 smallholder farmers deliver their freshly harvested coffee cherries to the station each season.
Situated at approximately 1,650 metres above sea level, the region’s fertile volcanic soils, abundant annual rainfall, and ideal growing conditions produce coffees known for their vibrant character and exceptional quality.
Riakiberu Coffee Factory is committed to supporting the long-term success of its farming community. Through year-round agricultural training and educational seminars, the factory helps farmers improve both crop quality and sustainability while fostering transparent, long-lasting relationships.
As part of the Kamacharia Farmers Cooperative Society, producers also benefit from cooperative programs funded by previous harvests. Members have access to pre-financing for school fees, farming supplies, and emergency expenses, helping strengthen both their farms and local communities.
The region experiences two harvests each year: a smaller crop from March to May, followed by the main harvest from October to December.
Coffee in Kenya
Although coffee likely grew wild in what is now Kenya for centuries, commercial cultivation didn’t begin until the late 1800s. In 1899, missionaries known as the Holy Ghost Fathers introduced coffee seeds from Réunion Island, laying the foundation for what would become one of the world’s most respected coffee-producing nations.
Kenya’s reputation for exceptional coffee was further shaped by the work of Scott Agricultural Laboratories, established in the early 1900s. It was here that the famous SL coffee varieties—including SL28 and SL34—were developed, varieties that continue to produce many of Kenya’s finest coffees today.

Light Roast
This Light Roast focuses on preserving natural sweetness and origin character. By keeping roast development gentle, it maintains clarity and smoothness while highlighting caramelized sugars and nutty tones. In turn, the result is a clean, elegant cup with a soft, lingering finish.
